The fallen leaves carpeted beneath the tree dried out crispily, and the tree continued to drop another leaf.
The child who witnessed this began to laugh instead, and new leaves sprouted between the branches.
People forced themselves to smile in order to revive the tree.
And so spring returned to the forest, now brimming with laughter.
